Here is the link:Įxtra: If you’re wondering why I didn’t include a photo of my original first-printing copy of Deja Vu, it’s because someone stole it. There is a complete description and review on this site. Update (May, 2021): A 50th Anniversary box set has been released (May 14th, 2021) on Rhino Records. Although Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young had a rocky relationship, maybe their combustible passion helped produce such great music. Its songs reflected the times, and yet they still hold up today. It’s hard to believe we’re approaching 50 years years since the release of Deja Vu. It was similar to what Stephen Stills did with “For What It’s Worth (Stop, Hey What’s That Sound)” after the Sunset Strip demonstrations in 1967. That song about the Kent State shootings by the National Guard, fit right in with the band’s political awareness. Neil Young’s greatest contribution to the group’s recordings came in 1970, shortly after the release of Deja Vu …the single “Ohio”. Neil’s solo songs were a welcome part of their concerts as the years went on. His guitar duets with Stephen Stills added energy to their electric sets, and… Its popularity not only helped Young’s solo efforts, but the other members of the group had major success with their individual releases.Īs originally expected, Neil Young was a great asset to the group’s live shows. It’s also one of the best titles ever for a second album. Those were filled with songs CSN would have loved to record.ĭeja Vu hit #1, and eventually went 7-times Platinum in the U.S. He clearly showcased his talent with After The Gold Rush and Harvest…which were his next two releases. His solo success came after Deja Vu gave him a much higher profile. What we do know is that even though Neil Young had two very good solo albums prior to joining CSN, they were not very successful. We’ll never know if CSN would have had smoother sailing if they hadn’t added the Y. Drummer Dallas Taylor, Bassist Greg Reeves, and Engineer Bill Halverson have said the first album was made with great cooperation and enthusiasm, but Deja Vu had the musicians butting heads. Neil Young only played on five tracks…his two songs, “Helpless” & “Country Girl”, plus “Almost Cut My Hair”, “Woodstock” and “Everybody I Love You”.Īs much as I love Neil Young, it could certainly be debated whether his addition was good or bad for Crosby, Stills & Nash. (CSN&Y with Dallas Taylor & Greg Reeves, photo by Henry Diltz) The Stills solo song “4 + 20” got a lot of airplay, and so did David Crosby’s “Deja Vu” (with John Sebastian on harmonica). The hit singles from Deja Vu were Graham Nash’s “Teach Your Children” (with Jerry Garcia on steel guitar), Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock”, and Nash’s “Our House”. It was the perfect album opener, with excellent harmony and a driving rhythm…a worthy follow-up to “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes” which had opened their first album. ![]() “Carry On” by Stephen Stills was the first song I heard. Memphis FM radio stations started playing the album right away. Deja Vu had the leather-looking cover with the gold embossed letters, and an actual photograph glued to the front. We may have wanted to break in, but we came back when the store was open. We looked in to see a huge display at the front of the store with lots of copies of the album…only a locked door away. The day Deja Vu was released (March 11th, 1970), we went to the record store…but it had closed for the day. My wife and I were newlyweds living in Memphis, TN while I attended electronics school. You can also get info about the Deja Vu 50th Anniversary Box Set by clicking the link at the end of this article. Note: This article is about the original album. Stephen thought it would be different this time. Eventually, they decided to add Neil Young…the same musician Stephen Stills fought with when they were in Buffalo Springfield. It was a huge success with critics and the public alike, but they felt they needed another guitarist for live performances. In 1969, they had released their self-titled first album. Deja Vu was a pivitol time in the career of Crosby, Stills & Nash. ![]() ![]() With a rated speed of 1,550rpm and a three-speed transmission, the little Model L could work at up to 6mph, though one option was a ‘transport speed attachment’ which increased rated speed to 2,400rpm and 10mph – for ‘on-road use only’, as the instruction book put it. That was easily enough to do the work of a two-horse team. It may have been that John Deere didn’t have enough capacity to make the engine itself but, either way, the water-cooled twin proved successful, delivering 10.42hp at the belt when tested at Nebraska, the following year. Like the 62, it was powered by a small, vertical twin, designed in-house but built for the company by engine manufacturer, Hercules. Later that year, the full production Model L was launched. Twenty-four Model Ys were built and must have been judged a success as, in the summer of 1937, John Deere followed it with the updated Model 62, though even this one was still limited to a small production run, to test the market. It was a simple machine with a two-bar chassis and no hydraulics or PTO. It broke with tradition by featuring a vertical, twin-cylinder engine (not JD’s traditional horizontal layout), possibly to keep the overall length down. A prototype – the Model Y – was built at Deere’s Wagon Works factory in 1936. John Deere responded but, being the conservative company it was, didn’t rush straight into production. ![]() From livestock farms which needed a second tractor for yard-scraping, to smaller arable farmers, market gardeners and landscapers, there was a demand for a small, lightweight tractor which would do the work of two horses, but at a higher speed. But back in the mid-1930s, JD realised it was missing out on a growing market for smaller machines than its traditional big twins. Then the New Generation of four- and six-cylinder tractors which propelled the company through the 1960s, ‘70s and beyond. We all know about the first Waterloo Boy, and the generations of Johnny Poppers which followed. The original L is a strong contender for John Deere’s most forgotten tractor. The latter was built from a kit, complete with distilled water that’s dripped on to a hot plate, to produce authentic steam. Smaller projects include a JD stationary engine, and a mobility scooter that’s been converted into a miniature steam lorry. ![]() We all know what happened to outside events this year! Not that he’s only interested in tractors. He’s always taken an active part in rallies, and has been on the committee for Somerset’s long-running Abbey Hill Steam Rally for 38 years – 2020 would have been Abbey Hill’s 40th. Getting his tractors to shows is especially important. ![]() “It’s small enough to fit in a small box trailer, towed behind my pick-up, so storage and transport are easier.” “I’d always fancied the Model L, so when this one came up, I had to have it,” he said. To someone living in a bungalow, that meant moving to smaller tractors and, for someone with so much John Deere experience, there was an obvious choice. The bigger problem was that leaving the farm meant he would have nowhere to keep his tractors, nor access to an HGV to take them to shows. ![]() However, he already had a Class I HGV licence for hauling his own old tractors around, so quickly found a job delivering milk to supermarkets, which he’s been doing ever since. Unfortunately, when the boss’s son came back to work on the family farm, it meant redundancy for Andy. A snapshot of working life from 1959 to ‘73 adds to the tractor’s provenance. ![]() ![]() ![]() After exhausting those wordlists, they will try all of the words again with common substitutions: capitalizing the first letter ( december → December), making common letter-for-number swaps ( december → d3cemb3r), and other common password variations. In less than one second, 30% of all passwords will be cracked. It didn’t take long for people to notice the Malinois’ work drive, trainability, and versatility, which ultimately opened doors for the breed. Luckily for the Mals, they had some admirers, and in the 60s, their numbers once again began to rise throughout America. ![]() The first records of the Belgian Malinois stepping foot in America were in 1911 when they were shipped over from Europe to assist shepherds in herding their livestock.īefore the Second World War, the Belgian Sheepdog Club was formed, and Malinois flourished in the U.S., with their populations growing steadily, however, when the war halted the breed import, the Malinois population numbers inevitably dwindled. The Chien de Berger Belge’s panel of experts analyzed 117 dogs and came to the conclusion that there was a consistent type of Belgian shepherd breed which led to the first Belgian shepherd dog standard and the variations being named after the towns in which they originated. The club got to work and began to research whether Belgium actually had a national native shepherd dog type. One of the most monumental years for the Belgian shepherd breeds was in 1891 when The Chien de Berger Belge (Belgian shepherd dog club) was founded.
